Mary Alice Whittemore

Mary Alice Whittemore, 78, was born to the late Rastus and Ollie B. (Hobbs) Whittemore on February 8, 1946 in Graves County, Kentucky. She left this earthly life for an eternal life on January 28, 2025, 10:36 AM at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.

Ms. Whittemore professed a hope in Christ at the age of 13 years old and joined Hickory Cumberland Presbyterian in America. She was a faithful member there until they no longer had church at Hickory. She then joined Smith Temple Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America and was a faithful member, elder, and church clerk until her passing. Ms. Whittemore served as treasurer of the Matters of the Heart Youth Group. She loved the Lord, her church, her family, and especially children, as they were her earthly passion.

Ms. Whittemore was a graduate of Dunbar High School and West Kentucky Vocational School. She retired from the Cabinet for Human Resources after working for 26 1/2 years.

Ms. Whittemore was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nobee Yarber, five brothers, Arfestus Whittemore, Freddie Whittemore, Charles Whittemore, Rastus Whittemore Jr., and Melvin Whittemore. Also preceded in death was her four legged grand puppy, Lacey Beige Hardison.

Ms. Whittemore leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Vanessa Hardison, a granddaughter, Whitney Sizemore (Logan) of Mayfield, KY, two sisters, Saundra Yarber of Boaz, KY, Wanda Stubblefield of Mayfield, KY, four brothers, Robert Whittemore (Pattie) of Falls of Rough, KY, Jasper Whittemore, James Whittemore of Boaz, KY, and Kenneth Whittemore of Mayfield, KY. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ms. Whittemore held a special place in her heart for Jessica Yarber, Ja'Ohana Yarber, James Whittemore, Laniya Yarber, and Ka'Liah (Pup) Yarber as her children.
